Let me give you a snapshot

of my experience

I'm interested in the way

communities prepare for future health threats and use previous responses to guide the preparations. This interest led me to two internships with the Illinois Department of Public Health to gain insight into the designing and exercising of response plans, a COVID-19 Case Investigator position with the Tennessee Department of Health to see how response plans play out in reality, and an internship with Pandemic Action Network to learn how effective partnerships and strategic communication can lead to

a stronger future.

Selected Previous Projects

DIVE Course Program Evaluation Plan

This 20-page plan was created to evaluate how effective an undergraduate leadership class at Vanderbilt University was at shaping "good [leaders] in a world of wicked problems." The plan, including surveys and focus group guides, will direct future iterations of the class.

COVID-19 Response Insight Survey

As part of my MPH practicum, this online survey accompanied an agenda and action plan for a two-day workshop to collect insight on the COVID-19 response from 27 local health departments in Illinois. The data were used to write an Operational Readiness Review submitted to the CDC.

Welcoming Health Care to the 2020s

I was selected to give a TEDx Talk while in undergrad. My talk centered around how we can better use technologies like electronic health records, telehealth, and drones to reimagine what health care can look like in the United States and improve health outcomes for all.

COVID-19 Data Dashboard & Resources

With my peers desiring more useful data reporting during the COVID-19 pandemic, I compiled Valparaiso University's data into a public dashboard and tracked trends on cases, close contacts, and available quarantine space while working with the administration to improve campus data reporting.

Student Perceptions of COVID-19 Protocols

For my BSPH capstone, I developed a survey and analyzed data on perception of campus safety and comfort in relation to Valparaiso University's COVID-19 protocols. Around 250 students completed the survey and results were shared with university administration to guide future actions.

Heat Islands and Health Inequities

The impacts of warmer weather on health can be worsened in cities due to the heat island effect. While working on my MPH, I created a presentation for a health equity class that explained how heat islands impact parts of a city in different ways and contribute to health inequities.
